Learning together for Change is a conference organized by The Association of Swedish Higher Education (SUHF). As a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), SUHF wished to contribute to IAU’s very important work and involvement in the UNESCO led Education for All movement.

The aim is to gather representatives from different sectors, including academia, education, government, NGOs and private enterprises, to discuss how Higher Education and research can be engaged in the process of achieving the right to education for all.

With the launch of the Education for All movement in 1990, education has increasingly become a major issue at both the national and international levels. The message is clear – in order to achieve sustainable development on a global scale, we need to make education a priority.

Higher Education and research plays a decisive role in this work, not least given the importance of teacher education in building societal infrastructure.

Learning together for Change will be able to provide an interesting forum for discussion and formulation of strategies, which could advance the involvement of Higher Education and research in relation to Education for All.

The conference is structured around four different themes that will serve as inspiration for eight different workshops. The themes are:

  • Sustainability and Change
  • Learning, Technology and Globalization
  • Rights, Equality and Gender
  • Quality

Conclusions from the workshops will be documented and fed forward to the UNESCO World Education Forum in Korea, May 2015, where the post-2015 education agenda will be discussed.

The conference is free of charge and takes place at the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha, Tanzania, 27–29 April 2015. The three days will be locally hosted in collaboration with The University of Dar es Salaam.

Participants will be able to learn from forward-thinking research, establish new collaborations, and at the same time play a role in an event that will influence and advance the future of Education for All beyond 2015.
